Mama Cakes is the creation of Claire Byers – who recently got in touch to book a food photography session. Claire’s mission is to create cakes that look and taste delicious , so everything is made freshly to order, shortly before being delivered.
Prior to the shoot, I met Claire at her farmhouse, where we had a chat about her approach and vision for Mama Cakes. Claire was keen to get the home baked message over, with an emphasis on flavour.
On the day of the shoot I arrived armed with a selection of accessories – Claire had been busy baking, so there was an array of goodies all ready to be photographed. Some of the cup-cakes were un-iced at this point, so Claire and I were able to work out some ideas together which would help demonstrate the flavour of the cakes – lemon slices were added to the lemon cupcakes, to give them a punch of colour. Vanilla cupcakes were given a fun ice-cream twist with a ‘99’ flake finish.
Using a well-used cooling rack to display some cakes helped to communicate the idea of cakes being freshly home-made, along with more formal cakes being presented on antique cake stands to present a sense of celebration.
Claire was open to trying some creative and unconventional methods of presentation – resulting in some stunning imagery.
I hope you enjoy this imagery. If you have an artisan business which could benefit from some great imagery, get in touch for a chat! Best wishes Lou 🙂
